Twenty Years of Service
On Monday 27th July 2009, The Mayor of
Gillingham, Councillor Rupert Evill, and members of Gillingham Town Council paid
tribute to Gillingham Town Clerk, Sylvia Dobie, on completion of twenty years
service with Gillingham Town Council.
Sylvia joined the Town Council in July 1989, as
Assistant Town Clerk. Sylvia was promoted to Town Clerk in 2004, and in March
2008 gained her certificate in Local Council Administration. Sylvia is currently
preparing an application to obtain Quality Status for the council.
Sylvia has worked along side thirteen Mayors and has
seen the town grow from a population of just over 6,000 in 1989, to it’s present
day population of just under 12,000.
Under Sylvia’s guidance, the Town Council is working alongside the Three Rivers
Partnership to provide better leisure facilities and to manage and protect open
spaces in and around Gillingham.
Sylvia said “It has been a privilege to have worked
alongside the members and staff of the Town Council during the last twenty
years”.
