The Car Link Scheme is run entirely by volunteers and is proving to be hugely popular and a vital service to the local community, in the SP8 postal district of Gillingham.

Gillingham is quite remote from all the main hospitals that serve the area; Salisbury, Yeovil, Dorchester and Southampton with no direct public transport links. Transport is offered to these hospitals and other more local services such as Doctors Surgeries, Dentists, Hairdressers and shopping for those people where a door to door transport is essential to their needs.

Although volunteers give there time freely the journeys do have a cost and these costs need to be recovered in the form of donations from clients. However, clients who are on incapacity or other benefits can reclaim these costs.

For the ongoing success of the scheme more volunteer coordinators (who operate from home) and drivers are required.
